Meet Leslie LaCosta: A Commitment to Our Students, Parents & Community
My name is Leslie LaCosta, and I've had the privilege of calling Readington home since 2019. As a parent, I have a vested interest in the future of our schools. My son is currently entering third grade at Whitehouse School, and like many parents, I look ahead to the day when he will walk the halls of Hunterdon Central High School.
My commitment is not just to my son's success but to the success of all students in our district. I want to ensure that our schools provide them with the tools they need to navigate real-world challenges confidently.
BACKGROUND
With more than 30 years of professional experience, including 18 years in leadership roles, my passion has always been to help people do their best and succeed, whether they are employees, colleagues, or now, the students, staff, and parents in our district. I want to bring this same passion for teamwork and success to our school board, creating an environment where everyone—students, teachers, administrators, and parents—can thrive together.
My own educational journey began at Montclair State University, where I pursued a degree in high school math education. However, life had other plans, and I found myself on a different, yet equally rewarding, career path. This experience taught me the importance of adaptability and resilience—qualities that I believe are essential for our students as they prepare to face an ever-changing world.
EMPOWERING STUDENTS, PARTNERING WITH PARENTS
I am focused on empowering our students with the knowledge and skills they need for success beyond the classroom. Our education system must continue to evolve, integrating practical life lessons that help students discover their passions and prepare them for self-sufficiency in areas where there may currently be gaps.
But I can't do this alone. I believe that building strong partnerships with parents is essential to our children's success. By keeping open lines of communication, involving parents, and ensuring that they feel heard and respected, we can build the trust needed to support our students fully. When parents and educators work hand in hand, we create a stronger, more cohesive community that benefits everyone.
